About us

AZJAR Tours was founded in 1996 and is based in Ghat, in southern Libya. Drawing on our extensive experience and first-rate service, we make sure that your travels will be unforgettable. Tours in the Sahara Desert

Discover the untouched and breathtaking desert landscapes in southern Libya with us, featuring unique and spectacular natural formations, archaeological sites, prehistoric rock paintings, and engravings that are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Our excursions take you to the Akakus and Tadrart Mountains with their bizarre landscape formations, the rock engravings in Wadi Mathendoush, and to Libya's two greatest natural wonders: the stratovolcano Wau an-Namus and the lakes Mandara, Gabroun, and Umm el-Ma’a, nestled in the dunes of Ubari.
A visit to the ruins of ancient Garama and the small yet remarkable archaeological and ethnological museum in Djerma will set the stage for your excursions. 

Tour guide

During your tours, you will be accompanied by local Tuareg guides who are experts in the region. 

Transportation

You will travel in 4x4 vehicles, on foot, or on your own riding camel. 

Luggage Transport

Your luggage will be transported in vehicles or by pack camels. You will only need to carry your daypack. 

Accommodation and meals

On your tours, you will sleep under the starry sky or in a tent. Meals are prepared by a cook and consist of traditional dishes. 

Cultural Tours

Join us in visiting the ancient Greek and Roman cities of Leptis Magna, Sabratha, Apollonia, and Cyrene in Cyrenaica and Tripolitania along the Mediterranean coast, as well as the underground rock dwellings and the former Berber settlements in the Jebel Nafusa, the natural boundary between the coastal plain and the southern interior. 

Visit to Cultural Festivals

Join us in experiencing the annual Folklore Festival in the oasis of Ghadames, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the impressive Tuareg Festival in the desert city of Ghat which celebrates the rich culture and traditions of the Tuareg with music, poetry, dance, camel racing, and handicrafts.
